E-Learning Search

This web application was created as Ken's MFA thesis project at SCAD. The application was designed to harvest e-learning content and make that information searchable.

The "harvester" worked much like a web crawler. The root folder of a course is given as a starting point for the harvester and it recursively finds all the information. It specifically looked for harvest regions in html file as well as any associated meta data. All the information gathered was stored in a database.

The search engine gave curriculum designers the ability find content from a set of keywords, or from a more advanced set of filter controls. The e-learning department wanted to use the search engine to find instructional content that could be reused in other courses.

Using small collections of learning material, or learning objects, was e-learning's key to working more effectively. Learning objects provide a modular approach to e-learning course development--it allows for information to be plugged into a different context.
